Sharp knives
While it's tempting to toss your knives into the dishwasher for convenience, it’s not such a great idea. The high-pressure water and abrasive detergents can dull the blades and damage the handles. Hand wash your knives to make sure they stay sharp and last longer.
Plastic containers
While many plastic containers claim to be dishwasher-safe, the heat of dishwasher water can cause warping, discoloration, or the release of harmful chemicals from certain plastics. Hand wash plastic containers to extend their lifespan and keep your food storage safe.
Copper pans
Dishwashers can tarnish and discolour copper due to the harsh detergents and heat. Handwashing with a mild copper cleaner is the best way to keep their shine.
Crystal glassware
The dishwasher can leave it dull, hazed, or permanently etched.
Anything with a rubber seal
The chemicals and hot water in your dishwasher can cause the rubber to degrade over time.
Jars or bottles with adhesive labels
The combination of sticky glue and paper on glass jars and bottles can clog your machine's drain.
