Avoid a retic blockage this summer!

Now that we’re seeing glimpses of spring on the horizon, you may have started thinking about turning your retic back on. Here’s how to keep it flowing smoothly when the sun finally appears!

Regular check-ups

Just like you give your car a regular check-up, your reticulation system needs some love too. Start by giving it a once-over. Check for any visible leaks, loose fittings, or broken sprinkler heads. Fixing these issues early can save you a lot of water and money in the long run.

Check for blockages

Imagine your sprinkler is like a little showerhead for your plants. If it's clogged, they won't get their refreshing wash! Gently clean the nozzle of your sprinkler with a toothbrush or a small brush to remove any dirt or buildup.

Adjust the water pressure

Sometimes, too much pressure can be a problem. Take a walk around your garden and make sure your sprinkler heads are doing their job properly. Adjust them to cover the right areas and avoid watering your driveway or the neighbour’s cat!

Watch out for hard water

Perth is a hard water area – which means that it contains high levels of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. These minerals can build up in your sprinklers over time, so you might want to consider a descale every now and again.

Replace broken parts

If you notice any damaged or broken parts, don't procrastinate! Get them replaced ASAP. Broken parts can lead to irregular water distribution and, you guessed it, blockages.

Don’t forget to flush!

Every now and again, it's a good idea to flush out your reticulation system. This clears out any sediment or buildup that could cause blockages. Simply run the system without the sprinklers for a few minutes to keep things flowing smoothly.

Mind the roots

Those thirsty tree roots can be a real headache for your retic system. Be mindful of where you plant trees and shrubs in relation to your sprinklers. If their roots start messing with your pipes, it can lead to blockages and major repairs.
