Over time, dirt, leaves, sand, and whole families of dead flies can gather in the tracks of your sliding doors. Here's how to clean them so they run smoothly again.

Use a narrow vacuum attachment to reach into the corners of the tracks and give them a good vacuum. Also vacuum the area around the sliding door to keep dirt and dust from making its way onto the tracks.

Mix 1 cup (250ml) of water with a couple of drops of nonabrasive cleaner (such as washing up liquid).

Grab a toothbrush (or other small brush if you have one), dip it into the solution you've just made and scrub the inside of the tracks. Work your way from one side of the tracks to the other and concentrate on any areas where there is stuck-on dirt.

To get right into any corners, cover a knife or screwdriver with a cloth and poke it into the corners to remove any grime.

Wipe down the tracks with a microfibre cloth or paper towels, and make sure there is no moisture left in the tracks.

Clean your tracks once every couple of weeks to keep your doors running smoothly.
