The best memory books are full of words and pictures that describe sights, sounds, actions, events, people and feelings. You can make the book long or short, depending on the age of your child and add to it over time.

It’s also a great educational activity. Creating a memory book involves all sorts of skills, including literacy, writing, expression of feelings and emotions, and creativity.

If it helps, you could write prompts at the top of each page for your child to fill in, such as:

• Our family holiday
• When I grow up, I want to be …
• My favourite toy
• My favourite food
• My soccer team

Here are 8 page topics you can start with

1. Cover page - name, age, school year, date
2. All about me - age, height, shoe size and current photo
3. My family - sisters, brothers, mum, dad, step-mum/dad, grandparents, cousins etc.
4. Memories of the past year – include the best things that happened and also the least favourite. Add drawings and photos
5. Fun favourites - favourite things such as toys, TV shows, favourite food and ice cream flavour, favourite pop group and song
6. Favourite story or book and a drawing of a favourite character
7. ‘What I want to be when I grow up’
8. Sporting teams or other activities
