Engine oil is responsible for lubricating all the moving parts inside your car's engine. It keeps everything running smoothly and prevents excessive wear and tear. But if you neglect regular oil changes or use poor-quality oil, it can turn into a real nightmare.
When oil gets contaminated with dirt, debris, and other nasty stuff, it can start to break down and form sludge. This gooey mess can clog up all the tiny passages and crevices in your engine, preventing the oil from reaching where it needs to go. Metal parts start grinding against each other, generating excessive heat and friction, which can cause the engine to seize – which is not a good thing!
And remember that oil sludge isn’t just an ‘old-car’ problem. It can strike any engine from old bombs to shiny new cars. The good news is, it’s easy to avoid! The oil and filter in your engine should be changed every 6-12 months depending on your vehicle's make and age. But if you tow a trailer, often stop and start in traffic or make lots of short trips, ask your local auto services expert about the best plan for your car.
