- First things first, check out reviews from previous customers to see if they had a positive experience with the facility.
- Make sure the boarding hotel is clean and tidy. Go and look at the facility, particularly in the morning while they are usually cleaning. If you can smell cat urine, it probably isn't very clean.
- Look carefully at the type of accommodation on offer such as the size of the enclosure, level of privacy, and any amenities like toys or scratching posts. Check if each retreat/room/cage has multilevel shelves and other options to help your cat burn off excess energy.
- Make sure that every staff member is friendly, knowledgeable, and able to care for your cat's individual needs. Don't be shy to ask lots of questions, such as what they feed the cats, how often they change their litter, and what they do if your cat gets sick.
- Ensure that the facility has a plan in place for medical emergencies and that staff is trained to administer medication if necessary.
- Make sure they have secure enclosures to prevent escapes; also check if the facility will let your cat explore safely.
- Finally, it is always hard to be away from your cats, so ask if you can get updates while you are away. If they say that the updates will be via social media, check their social media channels to ensure they are active.
- And don't forget to bring your cat's favourite toys or blanket to make them feel at home!
