Flaky paint on your car? Don’t ignore it!

Ever notice that annoying flaking paint on your car? Well, it might seem like no big deal right now, but ignoring it could lead to some serious issues later on.

That shiny coat of paint on your car isn’t just to make it look cool (although that’s a bit of a bonus!). Car paint is designed to protect your car's metal surface from rust and corrosion, but over time the sun’s rays can break down the chemical bonds that hold this paint together – leading to unsightly peeling, flaking, or bubbling car paint. This will allow moisture and oxygen to reach the metal beneath – and the dreaded rust can set in.

  • Rust doesn't just look ugly, it’s a silent destroyer (maybe a bit overdramatic, but you get the idea!).

  • It’s crucial that you deal with flaking or peeling paintwork sooner rather than later.

  • The main cause of peeling is external damage – scratches, dents, chips, or sun damage. Moisture and contaminants then infiltrate the paint, compromising its protection. Discoloration, especially a yellowish or milky hue, is a telltale sign that your car needs attention.

So, what can you do? Give your car a spa day – it deserves it! Start with a simple wash and wax. Clean off dirt and grime, and a good wax job can help protect the remaining paint. But if the damage is beyond DIY remedies, consider getting a professional paint job. A fresh coat of paint not only looks snazzy, but also adds a new layer of defence.

To keep your car looking its best, park it out of direct sunlight, wash it regularly, and consider waxing every month or two. With a little attention and vigilance, you can ensure that your car's metal remains protected, and it continues to look fantastic.
