What you need

Recycled paper (such as wrapping paper or newspaper)

A small tub such as a wastepaper basket or a bucket (you could even use a cardboard box)

You could also use the plastic balls from a ball pit, or bean bags if you have any, instead of paper.

Instructions

• Scrunch up the paper into balls.
• If you have younger kids, simply put the basket or container a suitable distance away from them (you know your child best, so it’s up to you).
• Let them take turns to throw the ‘ball’ into the bin.
• Part of the game could include moving the container further away for each round.
• For older kids you could put the container on a table or use hanging basket hooks to hang the container over a door so it’s high up, just like a real basketball net.
• You can also draw a basketball backboard on the wall behind the container in chalk or use masking tape to create one.
• Let everyone practise a few throws before you start.
• Besides being lots of fun, this game is great for hand-eye co-ordination skills.
