Australia’s toy industry is worth more than 3.7 billion dollars annually – that’s a lot of toys we’re buying for our kids (not to mention the environmental impact of those discarded after only a few weeks). But if you have young children aged 0-7, there’s a brilliant way to save money without your kids missing out.
Toy libraries work just like book libraries. You join and then have access to a huge range of toys. It’s like a bottomless toy box that you don’t have to find space for in your home!
There is usually an annual membership fee, but then you have access to hundreds of toys without additional cost.
Benefits include:
- Access to quality items
- No permanent storage required
- Always something new to choose
- Age-appropriate toys
- Toys for physical development, fine motor development, role playing and dressing up, completing puzzles and board games
- Access to larger, more expensive toys
- Try before you buy! Hire one from the toy library to see which toys your kids love and whether it will be a good investment.
- Reduced landfill from unwanted toys
- Learning to share – kids learn to take the toy back for someone else to enjoy
