The weather seal on the bottom of your garage door isn't doing its job properly
It is designed to keep debris and water out of your garage, but over time it can harden and lose its shape. When this happens, it won't be as effective and will need a replacement.
Safety sensors are out of alignment
If your automatic garage door isn’t closing properly and letting in leaves, twigs, and rainwater, it could be your safety sensors. Safety sensors are located on either side of your garage door and let your garage door know when it is safe to open or close. Check that both lights on the sensors are on – if they are blinking or are off then something could be blocking the line of sight, or they may need readjustment.
The springs may need attention
A damaged extension spring can cause your garage door to become crooked and not close properly, allowing winter debris to get in. These springs are mounted on either side of the door and pull independently, so you should always look to make sure both sides of your garage door are aligned. If they seem a little off kilter, your springs could need adjustment or repair.
Never try to repair or replace garage door springs yourself as they are tightly wound and under a lot of tension, making them dangerous to someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Leave this one to the experts!
