Gifts you can eat can  be very cost effective if you make them yourself. Baking ingredients in particular are generally inexpensive – especially if you buy  generic brands.

Edible plants

Grab some containers (it could be anything – old teacups from the op shop, empty glass jars or inexpensive plant pots) and plant some herbs as a gift. It's best to buy seedlings, and if you start now, they will be well-established by Christmas!
