Signs you might need a new antenna!

An efficient, well-functioning antenna is crucial for accessing free-to-air television – but they don’t last forever - antennas can degrade over time or become less effective. Here are some common signals you might need a new one.

Pesky pixelated pictures

If you consistently experience pixelation, picture break-up, or a 'blocky' appearance on your TV, it could be a sign that your antenna isn't receiving a strong signal. This is often the first sign that something is wrong with your antenna setup.

Lost signal?

If your TV signal drops out a lot (how annoying is this – particularly if you’re trying to watch a murder mystery!), it could be your antenna trying to tell you that it's damaged, misaligned, or not suitable for your area's signal conditions.

Wear and tear

It's sitting on your roof for years, getting attacked by the elements, so it's not surprising that over time, your antenna can become a little battered and bruised! Bent or broken elements, loose connections and rust can significantly affect its ability to receive signals.

Just plain old

Antenna technology has improved significantly over the years so if your antenna is several years old, it might not be keeping up with new digital signals or frequencies used in your area. Upgrading to a newer model designed for digital TV can solve lots of problems.

New buildings and structures

Our skylines are constantly changing with new buildings or structures popping up. This is a bit like a road block when it comes to your antenna receiving the signals it needs. If there have been recent construction work in your area and you've noticed a drop in signal quality, a new, more suitable antenna or a better spot for the one you have might help.

If any of these problems sound familiar, check your TV and antenna connections first; sometimes, the problem can be as simple as a loose cable. But if that doesn't help, give your local antenna expert a call to take a look and have a chat about the best solution for your home (and those whodunnits you love to watch!).
