Dust and allergens
Over the winter, your cozy doona has been doing an excellent job of keeping you warm, but it has also been collecting dust, pet hair (if you have pets, obviously), and all kinds of allergens. Giving it a good wash helps get rid of all that stuff.
Stale smells
We love snuggling up during the cold months, but our faithful doonas can develop stale odours from prolonged use. A good wash will freshen it up and ensure it's ready for the next winter.
Prevent mould and mildew
If you store a damp quilt, it can turn into a breeding ground for mould and mildew, and nobody wants that! A clean and dry quilt is much less likely to suffer from these unwanted guests.
Longevity
Proper care can extend its life. Washing it before storing it away for the summer helps maintain the fabric's quality, keeping it soft and cosy for many winters to come.
Check the label
Before you dive in, check the care label on your quilt. It will guide you on the best way to wash it.
Mild detergent
Use a mild detergent to avoid any harsh chemicals that could harm the fabric or your skin.
Rinse thoroughly
Make sure you rinse your quilt thoroughly to remove all the soap residue.
Store it safely
Once it's dry, store your quilt in a cool, dry place in a breathable fabric bag or a cotton pillowcase.
Avoid plastic bags as they can trap moisture.
